Join us on 27 February 2026, from 1:00–2:00 PM (Bangkok time), for this side event hosted at Theater 109, taking place alongside the Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD).
This side event, convened by the Right Energy Partnership with Indigenous Peoples (REP) in collaboration with UN Women, UN Environment Programme, and Heinrich Böll Stiftung Southeast Asia, will highlight Indigenous-led pathways toward achieving SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy.
The session centers Indigenous Peoples’ leadership—particularly the voices of Indigenous women and youth—in advancing a just, inclusive, and rights-based energy transition. It responds to persistent gaps in access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy for Indigenous communities across the Asia-Pacific region.
What to Expect
The event will formally launch the publication “Voices of Indigenous Women and Youth for a Just and Sustainable Energy Transition”, which documents key outcomes from the 2024 Regional Conference in Bangkok. The publication captures lived experiences, policy insights, and community-driven solutions emerging from Indigenous women and youth leaders.
In addition, the session will present:
- A scoping study on policy frameworks for community-based renewable energy, and
- A mapping of Indigenous Peoples-led renewable energy initiatives in selected Southeast Asian countries.
Through a moderated panel discussion, speakers from Indigenous communities, UN agencies, civil society, and regional institutions will explore how policy, financing, and partnerships can better support Indigenous-led renewable energy systems while upholding human rights, gender equality, and climate resilience.
